Our Mission

The Lycoming County Paralegal Association (LCPA) is a nonprofit professional organization compromised of paralegals interested in promoting their own profession, and dedicated to the advancement of the paralegal profession as a whole. The Association's Mission is to:

Foster active communication among paralegals and to act as a forum for the interchange of ideas;
Promote and expand the utilization of paralegals;
Participate in the development of the paralegal profession;
Promote the educational and professional standards of the paralegal profession; and
Improve relations between paralegals and attorneys, and the legal community.

Who are we?

The Lycoming County Paralegal Association (LCPA) is a non profit professional organization founded in 1995. It is the mission of the LCPA to create a network through which members can enhance their legal knowledge and education. The LCPA serves as a forum for paralegals to communicate and to expand the development of paralegals on the local and national levels. The LCPA is affiliated with the National Federation of Paralegal Association (NFPA). The LCPA is also a member of the Keystone Alliance of Paralegal Associations. The Keystone Alliance provides a statewide voice for paralegals in Pennsylvania, monitors the development of the profession and promotes the profession in Pennsylvania.

What is a Paralegal?

The LCPA has defined a paralegal as the following: A person qualified through education, training or work experience, to perform substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and is customarily, but not exclusively, performed by a lawyer. This person may be retained or employed by a lawyer, law office, governmental agency, or other entity or may be authorized by administrative, statutory, or court authority to perform this work.
