MEETING MINUTES

Attendance

Present were: Judge Anderson, Judge Gray, Kevin Way, Roan Confer, Jennifer Heverly, John Pietrovito, Joseph Rider and Ed Mitchell.

Attendance was limited because of short notice and some confusion concerning whether the meeting would be held in light of the possible conflict with swearing-in ceremonies for City and County officials.

Discussion included:

Pro Se custody matters and emergency custody petitions.  The discussion began with discussion of an unusual case in which a parent claims custody was unknowingly surrendered in connection with a pro se proceeding. The discussion continued with the judges describing two cases in which custody orders have been entered by out of state courts in connection with PFA proceedings. The discussion also involved the judges' attitudes concerning what constitutes a legitimate emergency for scheduling emergency custody hearings.

Orphan's Court Rules.  The Orphan's Court Rules Committee submitted proposed amendments to the LLA Rules Committee for consideration.

Meetings for the remainder of the year are scheduled as follows: April 7, August 4 and December 1, 2008.
